In this hands-on 3-hour course, you will learn the fundamentals of resin casting to create your own unique pen blank, ready for turning on a lathe. The instructor will demonstrate the entire process, from properly mixing and pouring resin to curing techniques, with an emphasis on safety, best practices, and common pitfalls to avoid.
Students will learn color mixing and creative techniques to personalize their resin blanks. You will have an opportunity to create your own basic, two-color resin pen blank.
It takes at least 3-4 hours to set/dry under pressure but, ideally, it should stay in the pressure pot at least 8 hours and 24 hours to be cured. So, you will need to come in at a later date to pick up your pen blank. Then, you will have your own creation ready for turning in a future class!
All materials, tools, and safety equipment are provided.

Instructor Bio: Ed Pong has been creating wood projects, including pens and end grain cutting boards, for about 10 years. He started the hobby as an artistic outlet and a way to relieve stress. When talking about ways to decompress and chill out, Ed says: “there’s nothing like watching chips fly”.
